This is our recently completed conversion of
one of the three barns in our courtyard. When the farm was
operational this building was the tractor garage and at the rear, a
sawmill. Over the past year we have refurbished the entire structure
and have tried to maintain as many original features as possible.
The Grange is intended to be a comfortable and very well appointed
holiday home that provides the standard of furnishing that one might
expect at home in a location that is deeply rural, quite stunningly
beautiful and very close to some of the most interesting areas of
France.

The Grange is very spacious and
can comfortably sleep six people with divans available for two more.
The two main bedrooms have the original beams exposed which are
shown off to superb effect at night by subtle lighting. These rooms
are furnished with antique French double beds and wardrobes. The
third bedroom has twin beds and a fitted wardrobe and is on the same
level as the bathroom. Bed linen and towels are provided but not
swimming towels. Hot water is supplied by solar energy for a
shower, bath and vanity unit.

The ground floor is "split level"; a
large foyer or hall leads into the salon or sitting room which is
tiled for coolness in the summer but has a woodburning stove for
cool autumn and winter nights ( did I forget to mention? - skiing is
only an hours drive away). Two leather sofas provide comfortable
seating to watch the TV or DVD. From the salon one can exit onto two
different terraces.
The foyer includes a downstairs WC and
the stairs to the first floor. Tiled steps lead down to the
dining room and kitchen. We are particularly proud of this room as
it combines space, elegance and comfort with three windows giving a
superb view. The kitchen is well appointed and has all the necessary
equipment such as dishwasher, washing machine, fridge/freezer,
microwave, toaster, oven and hob, coffee machine and kettle and we
hope (but look forward to be corrected) as many pots, pans, crockery
and cutlery as a good chef could want. A huge dining table provides
space for up to ten people although we only have nine French café
chairs. The kitchen has double doors leading onto a further terrace.

There are four terraces associated with the
Grange, at the front a generous terrace is surrounded by a low wall
of local galets or cobbles and steps leading down from the
courtyard. Joined to this and overlooking the swimming pool is a
large terrace which enjoys the morning sun. At the level of the
kitchen there is a further paved area with a pergola over which we
are in the process of training an ancient Vine. This terrace takes
full advantage of the spectacular views. Finally, at the front of
the building is a long terrace where one can take in the spectacular
sunsets that we are blessed with here.
A teak garden table and chairs for six people
are provided with extra seating available if needed.
The swimming pool is 12m x 6m and is surrounded
on three sides with timber decking; the fourth side is mown grass
which rolls down to our fields and a wildlife pond. The pool is
shared with the family. This winter we have planted trees and shrubs throughout this landscaped area.
We are very confident that the Grange des Commères
provides comfortable and spacious accommodation in a beautiful and
interesting area and will provide a wonderful base for a splendid
family holiday.
